As already mentioned I am currently employed as a graphic designer for Amec Foster Wheeler. My Time is split between print, animation, presentation, eLearning, video and photography when required. I use InDesign for the majority of my print jobs which includes flat work and multipage docs. Depending on where the job is being finished depends on the level of interference required in paginating and creating impositions pre press. Due to my role within the company I am regarded as a brand champion and I’m frequently sent work from around the world to sense check and correct depending on the brand influence needed.
I work in an extremely fast paced environment and tackle various graphic related issues locally and afar. Sometimes briefs can be extremely sketchy and require a full overall with speedy turnarounds. I find myself constantly juggling priorities. When tackling jobs I need to spot check the writing style where possible to match up with corporate writing guidelines. Design is the tip of the sword when carrying out my role. In addition to design and technical know how, I need first class customer service and slick admin. I track the jobs in and out through in depth and detailed spread sheets that include information about suppliers used, job originators, cost codes, costs and spec etc. I constantly touch base with my clients and manage their expectations and keep them in the loop where there job is. Most of the time my customers are happy, but sometimes unavoidable problems can occur, missing deliveries (especially on large work sites with multiple signatories), delays in proof returns (workload). I tackle each problem confidently and with a professional manner.
My main area of responsibility within the business is oil & gas which makes up around 55% of the business, I also act as an overflow for nuclear, plc, and mining when needed. This work includes internal and external facing work in addition to this I pick up a lot of tender and bid work which is extremely demanding. The latter is seen as business critical by the head of communications and this work always prioritises above all other types of work. Sometimes I could have 3, 4, or 5 bids running with multiple clients requiring ‘their’ work now. I’ve designed executive summaries live in boardrooms with up to five stakeholders firing content at me simultaneously. Print deadlines for these documents is extremely slim.
I have many examples of work to show at interview from print related work through to eLearning courses, presentations and animations. The work I produce is innovative, on trend and most importantly pleasing to the eye. I believe my portfolio illustrates all my strengths and my natural flair for design. I believe I would make a valuable asset to any team. On top of natural talent I really think that my I have the right attitude to be a success anywhere.
